Flight delays at Delhi International Airport; dense fog disrupts train operations

Delhi International Airport

For the next two days, the India Meteorological Department predicts severe to very dense fog across North Indian states.

According to PTI, which cited sources, approximately 80 aircraft have been delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport due to bad weather conditions. The delays, caused by poor visibility and foggy weather, disrupted the plans of several people, causing frustration and hardship.

One such passenger, who was scheduled to travel to Gangtok, Sikkim, expressed his displeasure with the scenario.

“We’re flying to Gangtok, Sikkim, to celebrate the New Year, but our flight is two hours late.” We would complain if it is delayed any longer,” he told ANI, highlighting the mounting discontent among those stranded at the airport.

Train services hit by fog and low visibility

Not only did air travel suffer, but so did land transportation, with several trains in Delhi experiencing delays due to fog and reduced visibility. Passengers on their way to their destinations expressed their dissatisfaction with the disruption of their travel arrangements.

“I’m going to Mata Vaishno Devi, and our train is more than two hours late.” “Our train was supposed to arrive at 5.30, but it hasn’t yet,” a passenger grumbled.

Weather warning adds to travel woes

The Indian meteorological agency has issued a weather alert for the country’s northern regions. Most regions in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi should expect dense to very dense fog, with several sites in Uttar Pradesh and a few spots in Uttarakhand experiencing similar circumstances. Isolated areas of Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and the lower division of Himachal Pradesh are also predicted to experience intense fog.

The weather may significantly affect some airports, highways, and railway routes in areas with dense fog and low visibility, according to IMD.

According to IMD, severe fog and reduced visibility may have a substantial impact on some airports, roadways, and train routes.
