The RBI, which has its headquarters in Mumbai, and two private sector banks in the city, HDFC and ICICI, received threatening emails on Tuesday. The sender claimed to have planted bombs at eleven different locations throughout the financial capital and accused the RBI and private sector banks of being involved in the “biggest scam in the history of India.” Mint reported on this development, citing Mumbai Police.
In addition, the sender called for the resignation of RBI governor Shaktikanta Das and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their alleged involvement in the scam.
Where were the bombs planted?
The sender named three locations: HDFC House-Churchgate, RBI-New Central Building, Fort, and ICICI Bank Towers, BKC (Bandra-Kurla Complex) as the sites where bombs were planted. Additionally, the letters stated that the explosives would go off at 1:30 p.m.
What did the police find?
The Mumbai Police said that upon being made aware of the mail, they sent their personnel to each of the 11 locations, though nothing was found.
